Our Story

It all began in 2010, when Head Chef and Founder Roberto Diaz opened the original El Mariachi Loco just a block from where we are now. Inspired by community support and driven by a bold vision, Diaz relocated the restaurant in 2014 to one of Hammonton’s most iconic historic buildings—a 110-year-old corner space that had long been vacant. Seeing its potential, he built a new kitchen from the ground up and designed a bright, welcoming dining room filled with the colors, art, and spirit of Mexico.

Today, El Nuevo Mariachi Loco continues to honor its roots, serving handcrafted Mexican dishes inspired by the flavors of Central, South, and West Mexico. From tamales and mole to fresh guacamole and house-made salsas, every plate is prepared with care—just like it was on day one.

The heart of it all is Roberto Diaz, a trained chef who studied in Philadelphia and honed his culinary skills in country clubs before launching his own restaurant. Known for his relentless work ethic, Roberto also owns and operates a home improvement business, offering painting, renovation, and remodeling services throughout the area, alongside running the restaurant.

Diaz’s culinary approach is simple: to serve "real, good, authentic Mexican food."
